KiteSurf & Wingfoil Safari in Egypt: Fly Among the Red Sea Islands Aboard a Yacht

Imagine waking up to the sound of waves, coffee in hand, gazing at the Red Sea horizon. Ahead of you: crystal-clear water, wild islands, and a steady north wind. You are aboard a yacht and today you can choose whether to launch with the kite or the wing. This is the KiteSurf & Wingfoil Safari in Egypt.

What Is a KiteSurf & Wingfoil Safari?

A kite & wing safari is the ultimate adventure journey for wind and water lovers. Forget crowded hotels and busy beaches: for 7–10 days a yacht becomes your floating home, your transport, and your operations base. Each morning the captain studies wind forecasts, then sails toward the spot of the day — often a deserted island reachable only by sea. You jump in the water with your kite or your wing and fly across flat lagoons or waves, free from any crowds.

Wingfoiling has established itself as the ideal safari discipline: quieter than kite, easy to pack, and perfect for lighter winds that sometimes wouldn't be enough for kitesurfing. With the foil underfoot you glide above the water surface in near silence between coral islands. Riders who bring both can pick the discipline that suits the day: strong wind → kite; light wind or tight spots → wing.

The Yacht: Your Floating Base

Blue Tribe's safari yacht is a 25–30 metre vessel equipped for groups of 8–12 riders. Each cabin has air conditioning, a private bathroom, and USB charging ports. The wide rear deck is perfect for rigging kites or wings without getting in each other's way. On board: an experienced Red Sea skipper, a cook who prepares three fresh meals a day, and all safety equipment — VHF radio, first aid kit, service tender.

The itinerary is designed to sail at night, so every morning you wake up already anchored at a new spot. No van transfers, no wasted time — just water, wind, and adrenaline.

The Best Spots: from North to South Red Sea

The classic route departs from El Gouna or Hurghada and heads south, visiting some of Africa's most spectacular spots:

  1. Geisum Islands — flat shallow lagoons, a foiling paradise: both kite and wing find ideal conditions with mirror-flat water and stable afternoon thermals.
  2. Tawila Island — mangroves, sea turtles, and flat water protected by an outer reef. Perfect for wing foiling in the early morning hours.
  3. Soma Bay — a technical spot with short waves and strong wind: advanced kiters love the lips and jumps, while wing foilers find perfect downwind waves.
  4. Safaga — renowned for constant wind and the protected Abu Soma lagoon, ideal for guaranteed flat-water kitesurfing sessions.
  5. Hurghada Islands — an archipelago of tiny uninhabited islands with dream-like sea beds: morning wing foil sessions between coral heads, then snorkelling in the afternoon.

A Typical Day on Board

Wake-up is gentle: the yacht is already anchored. At 7:30 a hearty breakfast — fresh fruit, eggs, home-baked bread, and Egyptian tea. While you eat, the captain shares the forecast: 18–25 knots from NNW. Kiters start pumping; wing foilers might wait until 10 for the more stable thermal wind.

The morning session lasts 3–4 hours in the crystal-clear water in front of the island. Back on board for lunch — often freshly caught fish — and a rest under the deck awning. In the afternoon, if the wind holds, everyone returns to the water; otherwise the tender takes you to explore the island, snorkel on the reef, or simply relax on deck with a sunset cocktail. At night the yacht sails silently toward the next spot.

The Red Sea Wind: Why It's Perfect for Kite and Wing

The Egyptian Red Sea is one of the few places in the world where kitesurfing and wingfoiling coexist perfectly, thanks to the variety of wind conditions. The daytime thermal wind (called "Shamal" in the winter season) blows from the north predictably between October and May, reaching 15–30 knots during peak hours. This means:

  1. Kitesurfing: ideal in windows of 18–30 knots, flat water or short waves perfect for freestyle and freeride.
  2. Wingfoiling: effective from as little as 10–12 knots thanks to the foil's efficiency, enabling sessions on calmer mornings or light-wind windows between fronts.

Riders who bring both boards are rarely stuck: there is almost always the right condition for at least one discipline.

Beyond Kite and Wing: the Magic of the Red Sea

A safari is not only sport. Between kite and wing sessions you have time to discover a marine ecosystem unique in the world. The Red Sea hosts over 1,200 species of fish and 44 species of sharks, almost all harmless. It's common to see bottlenose dolphins swimming alongside the yacht at sunset, or spot a manta ray gliding just below the surface. Snorkelling on the coral reefs is extraordinary: colours, parrotfish, turtles, and nudibranchs just metres from shore.

Some islands host colonies of seabirds — terns and frigatebirds — and in the evening, sitting on the starlit deck, you realise you are truly in one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

Who Is This Safari For?

The safari is designed for intermediate to advanced kite and/or wing foil riders who are self-sufficient in the water and can manage their own equipment. You don't need to master both disciplines: many riders bring only a kite or only a wing. Those who want to try wingfoiling during the safari can do so at flat-water protected spots, under the guidance of our on-board instructors.

The small group size (max 10–12) guarantees an intimate atmosphere and personalised attention. Couples, groups of friends, and families all find their space on board: there is always someone who prefers relaxing on deck while the others fly across the water.
