March 1st, 2026 marks an important date for water sports in Reggio Calabria: the Lega Navale Italiana – Reggio Calabria Section and the Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Blue Tribe have signed a cooperation agreement establishing, at the Lega Navale's Naval Base, the only structured kitesurfing, wingfoil and SUP hub operating in the city centre.
An agreement that goes beyond a simple sporting convention: it is a shared vision of the sea as an educational, cultural and social resource, capable of enhancing the territory and bringing new generations closer to water disciplines in a safe and qualified way.
The agreement defines a structured cooperation framework on multiple levels. Blue Tribe brings qualified instructors and certified equipment; the Lega Navale provides institutional patronage and the use of the Naval Base's facilities, creating ideal conditions for a modern, accessible training offer in the heart of the city.
The activities planned at the Naval Base include:
The protocol aims to build a virtuous ecosystem around the territory's water disciplines, with objectives ranging from sports tourism to social development:
«The collaboration with the Lega Navale represents a shared vision of the sea as an educational, social and cultural infrastructure» declared Sebastiano Michele Militti, President of ASD Blue Tribe. «Water sport is not a hobby – it is medicine for the modern soul. We want to offer young people concrete opportunities for growth, training and well-being.»
Antonino Nicolò, President of the Reggio Calabria Section of the Lega Navale Italiana, highlighted how the agreement consolidates the institution's role as a «permanent outpost of maritime culture, sports training and environmental responsibility», building a modern and qualified offering that makes the sea accessible to new generations.
The Strait of Messina offers some of the most favourable weather and sea conditions in the Mediterranean for kitesurfing and wingfoil: constant winds, safe waters and a unique landscape make this area an ideal setting for the growth of these disciplines. With the new hub at the Naval Base, Reggio Calabria is positioning itself as a Mediterranean reference point for those who want to approach — or deepen their knowledge of — the world of sail water sports.
A project that looks to the future of the territory with its gaze firmly on the sea.
